Packing tape has two jobs: keeping a suitable carton closed and, for printed options, communicating a message. Choose the closure you need first, then decide whether transparency, appearance or a handling instruction matters.

Clear carton-sealing tape

Clear Carton Sealing Tape keeps the underlying carton details visible. Sorted's listed format is 48 mm wide and 75 m long per roll, sold in packs of six.

It is a practical option when you want a discreet seal or need to see printing beneath the tape. Keep shipping barcodes flat and readable, and follow the carrier's label instructions.

Brown carton-sealing tape

Brown Carton Sealing Tape gives a traditional carton finish. Sorted's rolls are also 48 mm wide and 75 m long, with six rolls in a pack.

Choose brown for the appearance you prefer. A brown kraft-style finish does not by itself mean the tape is paper-based, recyclable or stronger than a clear alternative. Use the actual product specification when those properties matter.

Fragile printed tape

Fragile Printed Packing Tape adds a visible handling message while sealing the carton. Sorted's format is 48 mm × 66 m per roll, sold as a six-pack.

Use the message alongside appropriate internal protection. Printed tape cannot stop items moving inside a box or guarantee special handling during transport. Our fragile-item packing guide explains the rest of the process.

Top Load printed tape

Top Load Printed Packing Tape communicates that the carton should be kept above heavier freight. Its listed dimensions are 48 mm × 66 m, with six rolls per pack.

This is a different message from “Fragile”. Select the instruction that matches the load, then confirm any handling arrangements with your carrier. The tape alone does not create a handling agreement.

Compare usable length and pack quantity

A six-pack of 75 m rolls contains 450 m of nominal tape length. A six-pack of 66 m rolls contains 396 m. To compare cost per metre, divide the pack price by that total. Actual carton yield also depends on the length used for each seal and normal waste.

Quantity 1 on these Sorted product pages means one six-roll pack. Check the product page before ordering so your stock calculation uses the correct unit.

Check the surface before buying in volume

Tape performance depends on the carton surface, the load and storage conditions. Dust, coating and unusual board can affect adhesion. Trial the tape on the cartons you actually use, especially when changing supplier or carton material.

Close the carton without forcing the flaps. Apply the tape smoothly and press it into contact with the surface. If a pack is bulging or the board is damaged, fix the underlying packaging rather than relying on extra tape.

Choose your format: compare clear and brown for routine closure, or select printed tape when a handling message is useful. For a complete bench checklist, read packaging supplies for small businesses.
